1. Overview
ResumeButler ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. By using our Service, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Data We Collect
- Account information: When you sign in via Google or Apple OAuth, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from the OAuth provider. We store your email and name to identify your account.
- Usage data: We track how many free tailors you have used and your purchased credit balance to enforce limits and display your balance.
- Resume content: When you upload a resume and request a tailor, the text is extracted and sent to our AI provider for processing. Resume text is never permanently stored on our servers. It exists in memory only for the duration of the API request.
- Payment information: We do not store your credit card details. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe; we receive only a confirmation and the number of credits purchased.
- Analytics data:We collect anonymized usage events (e.g., "resume uploaded", "checkout started") to understand how the Service is used and improve it. No personally identifiable information is included in these events.
- Error data: We capture anonymized error reports to diagnose and fix bugs.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To provide and operate the Service
- To enforce free-use limits and credit balances
- To process payments and send payment confirmation emails
- To improve the Service through anonymized analytics
- To diagnose and fix technical issues
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your resume content to train AI models.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate ResumeButler:
Anthropic (Claude AI)
AI processing of resume and job description content. Resume text is sent to Anthropic's API and processed according to their privacy policy. Content is not retained for training.
Stripe
Secure payment processing. Stripe handles all credit card data and is PCI-DSS compliant.
PostHog
Anonymized product analytics to understand feature usage and improve the Service.
Sentry
Error tracking to diagnose and fix technical issues. Error reports are anonymized.
Resend
Transactional email delivery (e.g., welcome emails after account creation).
Neon
Database hosting for account and usage data, hosted on AWS infrastructure.
5. Cookies and Local Storage
We use session cookies set by NextAuth to maintain your login state. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage to track anonymous usage (number of free tailors used before sign-in) on your device only.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data (name, email, usage record) for as long as your account is active. Resume content is not retained. It is discarded immediately after your request is processed.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent to analytics tracking (by using an ad blocker or browser privacy settings)

8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
